On this page

Mailboxes are created and managed in the FiniteHost panel, on the Email accounts page. This guide creates info@acme.in as an example, shows where its password comes from, and how to make a new password later.

Before you start#

  • You need a plan that includes mailboxes and is active (not in grace or suspended). See Choose a plan.
  • Web hosting plans: the domain after the @ must already be a website on the same plan. If it is not, add the website first.
  • Mail-only plans (Mail Basic, Mail Team): you can use any domain you own. Mail Basic covers 1 domain and Mail Team covers 3. The first mailbox on a domain claims that domain for your plan.
  • Have a password manager or a safe place ready. The password is shown once.

Create a mailbox#

  1. Sign in to the panel at https://panel.finitehost.com.
  2. In the menu, open Email → Email accounts. The header shows how many mailboxes you have used, for example "1 of 5 mailboxes used on Starter".
  3. In the Create a mailbox card, type the full address, for example info@acme.in. The box suggests info@ for each of your domains; you can type any name in front of the @.
  4. Click Create mailbox.
  5. A dialog shows the Address and the Password. Click the copy button next to the password and store it in your password manager.
  6. Click I have copied it. The mailbox now appears in the Mailboxes table with its size (for example 2 GB).

The new mailbox is ready to use within about a minute, once the mail server picks it up.

Rules for the address#

  • Use lowercase letters, digits, dots, hyphens and underscores before the @: info, priya.sharma, sales-team, accounts_2026.
  • It must start and end with a letter or digit, and be at most 64 characters.
  • Capital letters are turned into lowercase. Info@Acme.in becomes info@acme.in.
  • Each address can exist only once across FiniteHost, and a domain can belong to only one FiniteHost account.

About the password#

FiniteHost generates a strong 16-character password for every mailbox. You cannot choose your own; this keeps every mailbox safe from guessed or reused passwords. The password can contain letters, digits, - and _. Copy and paste it rather than typing it.

Make a new password#

Do this when you have lost the password, when someone who knew it leaves, or if you think it has leaked.

  1. Open Email → Email accounts.
  2. In the Mailboxes table, find the address and click New password.
  3. Read the warning: the old password stops working. Click Make new password.
  4. Copy the new password from the dialog and click I have copied it.
  5. Within about a minute the new password is active. Update it everywhere the mailbox is used: webmail, every phone, every computer, and any website or device that sends mail through this mailbox.

Find the settings for mail apps#

The Mail app settings card on the right of the Email accounts page lists everything a mail app needs, each with a copy button:

SettingValue
Incoming (IMAP)mail.finitehost.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing (SMTP)mail.finitehost.com, port 587, STARTTLS (or 465, SSL/TLS)
User namethe full address, for example info@acme.in

The same values appear on the Overview page under General information. Step-by-step guides for each app start at Mail app settings.

Find your domain's mail DNS records#

After the first mailbox on a domain is created, a Mail DNS for acme.in card appears below the mailboxes. It lists the MX, SPF, DMARC and DKIM records for that domain with copy buttons. On web hosting plans the same records also appear on Domains & DNS.

Adding these records is the next step: see Email DNS records.

Open webmail#

Click Open webmail next to any mailbox, or the Webmail button at the top of the page. Webmail opens in a new tab at https://webmail.finitehost.com. Sign in with the full address and the password you copied. See Sign in to webmail.

Troubleshooting#

Message or problemWhat it means and what to do
"Add the domain as a website on this plan first"Web plans: the domain is not one of your websites. Add it under Websites, then try again.
"Starter includes 5 mailbox(es)" or "...all are in use"You have used every mailbox on your plan. Upgrade for more.
"Mail Basic includes 1 mail domain(s)"Mail-only plans limit the number of domains. Use an existing domain, or move to Mail Team for 3.
"That domain belongs to another FiniteHost account"The domain is already used by a different FiniteHost account. Remove it there, or write to support.
"That mailbox already exists"The address is taken. It may already be in your table.
"Mailboxes can be added while the plan is active"Your plan is in grace or suspended. Renew first.
"Enter an address like info@example.com"The address has a character that is not allowed, or it starts or ends with a dot or hyphen.
New password does not work yetWait one minute after making it, then try again. Paste it; do not type it.

Removing a mailbox#

There is no delete button for mailboxes yet. To remove one, write to support@finitehost.com from your account's email address with the address to remove. Copy any mail you want to keep first (see Move your email to FiniteHost, which works in both directions).

What's next#
