How GST is charged on FiniteHost plans, CGST/SGST versus IGST, and how to claim input tax credit with your GSTIN.

FiniteHost plans are taxed at 18% GST under SAC 998315 (hosting and IT infrastructure provisioning services). If your business is registered for GST and you add your GSTIN before paying, the invoice is a B2B tax invoice: it is reported in our GSTR-1 and appears in your GSTR-2B, so you can claim the GST back as input tax credit (ITC).

Before you start#

How the tax is split#

FiniteHost is registered in Tamil Nadu (state code 33). The split depends on your place of supply:

Your place of supplyTax on your invoice
Tamil Nadu (33)CGST 9% + SGST 9%
Any other state or union territoryIGST 18%

Your place of supply is the state in your GSTIN. Without a GSTIN, it is the state you chose in Profile & GST.

Worked example: Pro plan, monthly#

LineTamil Nadu buyerKarnataka buyer
FiniteHost Pro plan, monthly (30 days)₹299.00₹299.00
CGST 9%₹26.91
SGST 9%₹26.91
IGST 18%₹53.82
Round off₹0.18₹0.18
Total paid₹353.00₹353.00

The checkout charges whole rupees, so the small difference goes on the invoice as Round off.

Claim input tax credit, step by step#

  1. Add your GSTIN before paying. Open Profile & GST, enter the GSTIN and press Save billing details. The Account card then says Invoices: B2B (with GSTIN).
  2. Pay as usual. Your invoice carries your GSTIN, legal name and the correct place of supply.
  3. Download the invoice. Open it from Invoices and save it as PDF for your records. See Invoices and credit notes.
  4. Check your GSTR-2B. The invoice appears in your GSTR-2B after we file our GSTR-1 for that month. Your accountant claims the ITC from there.

Change your GSTIN or address#

Invoices are fixed once issued: GST rules do not allow editing them. What you can do:

  1. Update your profile for the future. Change the details in Profile & GST and save. Every invoice from then on uses the new details.
  2. Ask about past invoices. If an issued invoice has a wrong GSTIN or name, write to billing@finitehost.com from your account's email address with the invoice number and the correct details. Corrections are made with a credit note and, where allowed, a fresh invoice.

Troubleshooting#

  • The invoice shows IGST but you are in Tamil Nadu. Your GSTIN or chosen state is from another state. Check Profile & GST.
  • The invoice is not in your GSTR-2B yet. GSTR-2B for a month is generated after the month's returns are filed. Wait for the next cycle; if it is still missing, write to billing@finitehost.com.
  • "GSTIN check digit does not match". One character is mistyped. See Billing details and GSTIN.
