Undo send, schedule send and the Outbox
Take back a message you just sent, schedule mail for later, and understand the Outbox, retries and failed sends in webmail.
On this page
FiniteHost Mail never sends a message the instant you click Send. It first gives you a few seconds to change your mind, then hands the message to a delivery queue that retries if anything goes wrong. You can also schedule a message for a later time. This guide explains all three.
Before you start#
You know how to write a message (Write and send mail).
Undo send#
- Click Send.
- A bar at the bottom shows Sending… Undo with a countdown (5 seconds).
- Click Undo before the countdown ends. The message returns to the compose window, unchanged.
After the countdown, the message is on its way and cannot be recalled. No email system can pull back a message that has reached the recipient's server.
Schedule send#
Write a message now and have it go out later, for example at 9:00 the next working day.
- Write the message as usual.
- Click the small arrow ▾ next to Send.
- Pick In 30 min, In 2 hours or Tomorrow, or set Date and time yourself.
- Click Schedule send.
The message waits in the Scheduled folder. Times are in India Standard Time. The earliest you can schedule is one minute from now.
Change or cancel a scheduled message#
- Open the Scheduled folder.
- Click the message to see it.
- To stop it, click Cancel send on the ribbon (or right-click → Cancel scheduled send). Select several to cancel them together.
To change the text or time, cancel it, then write it again and schedule it.
The Outbox#
Every message you send passes through the Outbox for a moment. Normally you never see it there. It stays in the Outbox only when delivery could not be completed right away.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Message in Outbox, "will retry automatically" | A temporary problem, for example a network hiccup or a sending limit | Nothing. Webmail retries after 30 seconds, then waits longer each time (up to an hour), for up to 12 attempts. |
| "Waiting for you to be signed in — will retry automatically" | You signed out before it was sent | Sign in to webmail again. |
| Message marked failed with a reason, e.g. a refused address | A permanent problem: the receiving server said no | Read the reason, correct the address or content, and send again. It will not be retried. |
| "Delivery status unknown (connection dropped) — check your Sent folder before resending" | The connection broke at the last moment; the message may have gone | Look in Sent. If it is there, do not send again. |
Outbox actions#
Open the Outbox folder and click a message:
- Retry send (shown for failed messages) tries again now.
- Edit & reopen opens it in the compose window so you can fix it and send again.
- Cancel send stops a waiting message; Discard removes a failed one.
Troubleshooting#
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| I clicked Undo too late | The message has gone. Send a short follow-up with the correction. |
| A scheduled message did not go out | Sign in to webmail; it is sent then. Check Scheduled for its status. |
| The Outbox count keeps growing | You may have reached the sending limit. Wait an hour. See Limits and policies. |
| A message appears twice at the recipient | It was sent once, then sent again after an "unknown status" note. Check Sent before resending. |
