FiniteHost Mail adapts to small screens, so you can use it in your phone's browser without installing anything. Added to your home screen, it opens full-screen like an app and can notify you of new mail.

Before you start#

  • A recent browser: Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone and iPad.
  • Your mailbox address and password (Email accounts).

Prefer a regular mail app? See Gmail app on Android or Apple Mail on iPhone. Our own Android app is coming soon.

Sign in on the phone#

  1. Open https://webmail.finitehost.com in Chrome or Safari.
  2. Sign in with the full address and password (Sign in to webmail).
Webmail on a phone. The Compose button floats at the bottom right.

Find your way on a small screen#

  • Tap ☰ (top left) to open the folders, labels and tools. Tap outside it to close.
  • Swipe the ribbon sideways to reach more buttons.
  • Tap a message to open it. Tap Back to return to the list.
  • Tap Compose (bottom right) to write.
  • The avatar (top right) switches mailboxes and opens your profile.

Add webmail to your home screen#

Android (Chrome)#

  1. Open webmail in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu → Add to Home screen (or Install app).
  3. Confirm. A FiniteHost Mail icon appears on your home screen and opens without the browser bars.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)#

  1. Open webmail in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button → Add to Home Screen.
  3. Tap Add.

New-mail notifications on the phone#

  1. Open webmail (from the home-screen icon on iPhone).
  2. Tap the bell icon in the top bar → Enable notifications, and allow notifications when the phone asks.
  3. Tap Send test alert to check.

On iPhone and iPad, web notifications work only for sites added to the home screen, on iOS 16.4 or later. If you do not see the bell's permission prompt, add webmail to the home screen first and open it from there.

Tips for phone use#

  • Webmail updates while it is open. A mail app (Gmail, Apple Mail) is better if you want mail fetched in the background all day.
  • Large attachments use mobile data. Use Open preview to look at a PDF or image without downloading it.
  • If you lose the connection, webmail shows an offline page; it reconnects when the network is back.
  • Sign out on a borrowed phone: avatar → Manage profile → Logout.

Troubleshooting#

ProblemFix
No "Add to Home screen" optionUpdate Chrome or Safari. In Safari, use the Share button, not the bookmarks menu.
No notifications on iPhoneAdd webmail to the home screen, open it from the icon, and enable notifications there. Check Settings → Notifications for the FiniteHost Mail icon.
The page looks zoomed or cut offRotate the phone or reload. Make sure the browser's "Desktop site" option is off.
Signed out every daySessions end after 12 hours without use. Open webmail once a day, or use a mail app for always-on access.
