Webmail guide: find your way around

FiniteHost Mail is laid out like a desktop mail program: a ribbon of commands at the top, folders on the left, the message list in the middle and the message you are reading on the right. This guide names each area so the other webmail guides can refer to them.

Before you start#

Sign in to webmail at https://webmail.finitehost.com.

The screen, area by area#

1. Top bar#

• Menu (☰) shows or hides the folder sidebar.
• Search box. Type and press Enter. The All mail button next to it switches between searching the current folder and searching all main folders. See Read, search and filter.
• Storage chip (for example "27.4% of 5.0 GiB") shows how full your mailbox is. Click it for the storage panel.
• Calendar and Sticky notes icons open those panels (Calendar, notes and tasks).
• Bell turns on new-mail notifications in this browser (Webmail settings).
• Avatar (your initial or photo) opens the accounts menu: switch mailbox, add a mailbox, and Manage profile.

2. The ribbon#

The ribbon has three tabs. Buttons are greyed out until you select a message.

3. Sidebar#

• Compose button.
• Folders: Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Outbox, Scheduled, Spam, Trash, Archive, Snoozed, Junk. Numbers show unread messages (or queued messages for Outbox and Scheduled).
• Storage bar.
• Labels with a New label button, and your saved searches.
• Shortcuts to Calendar, Sticky notes, Support (writes to support@finitehost.com) and Tips & tours.
• Upcoming events and your latest Notes.

4. Message list#

• Select all checkbox and a count of selected messages.
• In the Inbox, category tabs All, Primary, Updates, Social and Promotions sort mail automatically by its sender and subject.
• Each row shows the sender, subject, the first line, labels, a paper clip for attachments, a star, and the time (today) or date. Unread messages are bold.
• Hover over a row for quick Archive, Snooze and Delete buttons. Tick the checkbox on the left to select several messages.
• Right-click a message for every action: reply, mark read, star, archive, snooze, follow-up, pin, sweep, VIP, spam, delete and labels. See Organise your mail.
• Scroll to the bottom to load older messages.

5. Reading pane#

Click a message to open it on the right. The pane shows Reply, Forward, Summarize, Archive and Delete, the sender with trust chips (such as Verified), recipients and date, attachments, and the message itself.

On narrow screens the reading pane replaces the list; use Back to return.

6. Status bar#

The bottom line shows whether the mailbox is connected ("Ready", "Mailbox connected"), whether live updates are working, how many messages are shown, and recent errors. If something fails, the reason appears here.

The command palette#

Press Ctrl+K (or Cmd+K on a Mac) anywhere. A search box lists every command: compose, go to a folder, toggle the theme, open contacts, rules, templates, calendar, two-factor setup and more. Type a few letters and press Enter.

Right-clicking an empty part of the screen opens a similar menu.

Tips and tours#

Tips & tours in the sidebar replays the introduction tour and offers short tours of individual features. Tours never change anything in your mailbox.
